If you have been injured on duty, please make sure that you forward the Federation office a copy of your 'Injury Form'. You will receive a letter from us after receipt of this, advising you of what you can do next.
If your injury is a result of a criminal act resulting in medical attention, the circumstances may warrant a claim being made for Criminal Injuries Compensation. It is important to note that if the injury does not attract an award of £1,000 then the claim will be automatically disallowed. To make a claim, contact the CICA online at http://www.justice.gov.uk/victims-and-witnesses/cica/how-to-apply
or by telephone on 0300 003 3601.
If you wish to pursue a civil claim and are a subscribing member of the federation, you can complete and return this C1 form (Application for legal assistance Civil Claims)
to your local federation office, so that your claim can be assessed by a retained federation solicitor via Leatherhead. Once approved, your application will be forwarded to Pattinson & Brewer solicitors for their advice.
Alternatively, the Police Federation, in partnership with Slater & Gordon Solicitors, are providing a dedicated claim line for personal injury cases, which will complement the current system.
If you or your family have suffered a personal injury, either on or off duty, you now have the option of simply calling PF Claimline on freephone 0800 9171 999 and one of their advice team will take down the details. A qualified solicitor will then look at your case, within just 24 hours of you making the call. You have the reassurance of knowing that your claim will be handled quickly and efficiently by a genuine specialist. The Police Federation is delighted to offer this excellent service at no cost to you. You can however still continue to report the matter through your Branch Board office.
Slater & Gordon Solicitors have been helping Police Federation members for over 50 years. During this time, they have developed extensive experience of the problems faced by police officers and have a proven track record of fighting and winning the difficult cases. They are committed to providing a thorough and effective service to members of The Federation.
PF Claimline covers officers who are injured both on and off duty and families of officers who are injured in either the same, or a separate accident. For any Personal Injury, you are covered through The Federation’s legal scheme. There is no deduction from your compensation for any legal costs.
Our aim is to maximise compensation, and in the last two years we have recovered just over £42 million in compensation for police officers.
The type of cases The Federation scheme covers include:
- Road traffic accidents (either on or off duty)
- Fatal accident claims
- Defective Equipment
- Dog bites
- Accidents in the workplace
- Occupational Deafness
- Training injuries
- Tripping or slipping
Being injured on or off duty can cause a host of other problems that are unique to police officers. This varies from reduction to half or nil pay if you are unable to work, to loss of promotion and specialisation prospects. Medical retirement, including ill health and injury pension applications and appeals, benefits and general welfare issues, are areas that the Federation and our Solicitors deal with day in and day out.
If you have any queries about the service, or you wish to find out if you have a claim please call PF Claimline on freephone 0800 9171 999.
